Lima City Tour
The Lima City Tour covers both faces of the capital in half a day and begins in the heart of the historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After pickup at your hotel in Miraflores, you reach the Plaza Mayor, the founding core of the city, surrounded by the Government Palace, the Municipal Palace and the Cathedral of Lima. There your bilingual guide tells the story of the viceroyalty, from the city's founding in 1535 to its role as capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru, while you admire the carved wooden balconies and the colonial architecture of the area.
The tour continues to the San Francisco Convent, one of the most impressive religious complexes in Lima, famous for its baroque facade, its ancient library and, above all, its underground catacombs. These passages, which for centuries served as a cemetery beneath the church, hold carefully arranged ossuaries that reveal the funeral practices of colonial Lima. Descending into this silent world is one of the most memorable moments of the Lima City Tour and connects you with the city's deep past.
The last part of the tour takes you to the modern, coastal Lima of Miraflores, an elegant district overlooking the Pacific Ocean. On the way you pass Huaca Pucllana, a large pre-Inca adobe pyramid in the heart of the district, which you admire from the outside while your guide tells its story. Then you'll stroll through its clifftop parks, including the romantic Parque del Amor, with its sculpture The Kiss and its colorful mosaics, while enjoying wide views of the sea. At the end of the tour you return to your hotel with the morning or afternoon free, depending on the departure you chose, ready to keep discovering the Peruvian capital.
