Frequently asked questions

Before planning your
trip to Peru

How many days do I need to see Peru’s main destinations?
It depends on how many destinations you want to combine. For Cusco and Machu Picchu, 4 to 5 days is ideal. To add the full Sacred Valley, count on 6 or 7 days. For a wider route including Lima, Ica and Nazca on the coast, 10 to 12 days is recommended. Our local team helps you build the itinerary based on the time you have.
What is the best time to travel to Peru?
For the highlands (Cusco, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley), the best time is the dry season, April to October, with sunny days ideal for hiking and photos. For the coast (Lima, Ica, Nazca) the weather is good year-round, though summer (December to March) is warmer and sunnier. If you combine highlands and coast, May to September are the most balanced months.
Can you combine several destinations in one trip?
Yes, in fact it is the most recommended way to make the most of your trip. The most popular combinations are Cusco with Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, or a coastal route linking Lima, Ica (Huacachina) and Nazca. We also build full routes crossing highlands and coast. Tell us which destinations interest you and we design an itinerary connecting transfers as efficiently as possible.
How do I get from one destination to another within Peru?
Between Lima and Cusco, the fastest is a domestic flight (around 1 hour 20 minutes). For the south-coast destinations (Ica and Nazca), you travel by road from Lima by tourist bus or private transport. Machu Picchu is reached from Cusco by panoramic train. We coordinate all internal transfers as part of the package so you don’t have to worry about logistics.
Do I need a visa or vaccines to visit Peru?
Most travelers from Latin America, the US, Canada and the EU do not need a visa to enter Peru as tourists, only a valid passport. There are no mandatory vaccines to visit Cusco, Machu Picchu or the coast. If you plan to travel to the Amazon, the yellow fever vaccine is recommended. We always recommend confirming the requirements for your nationality before traveling.
Which destination is best for a first time in Peru?
If it’s your first time, Cusco and Machu Picchu are the must-do combination: they concentrate Inca history, spectacular landscapes and the wonder of the world. If you land in Lima, it’s worth spending a day or two on its cuisine and historic center before flying to Cusco. For a balanced first experience, a 5-to-7-day trip through the southern Andes is the best introduction to Peru.
Can Cusco’s altitude affect me?
Cusco sits at 3,400 meters, so it’s normal to feel the altitude change the first days (known as soroche). That’s why we recommend spending the first day resting and acclimatizing, staying hydrated, eating light and drinking coca tea. Useful fact: Machu Picchu is lower (2,430 m) than Cusco, so the trip’s main site feels more comfortable. Our itineraries are designed with gradual acclimatization.
