Destacado

  • The adventure begins long before arrival: the train ride is a magical transition, traversing fertile valleys, majestic mountains, and the meandering Urubamba River that guides the way to Machu Picchu.
  • Upon arrival, the first image of the citadel emerging from the fog is an instant that remains forever engraved. Its terraces, temples and stone paths seem suspended in time, defying logic with their precision and harmony with the mountain.

  • From the top, Machu Picchu unfolds in all its glory. The panoramic view is unmatched: the citadel extends like a masterpiece perfectly integrated with nature, surrounded by green peaks and the abyss at its feet.
  • The decline offers another perspective. Touring the hidden corners of the citadel, feeling the energy of the place and admiring the details in each stone is an experience that connects with the past.
  • After the exploration, Aguas Calientes becomes the perfect place for a break: a comforting lunch, a quiet walk through its streets or simply a moment to absorb everything you have experienced.
  • The return by train closes the day with one last look at the Andean landscape, which now seems even more majestic after having stepped on the peak of Inca history.

Exploring Machu Picchu is not just a tourist visit, it is entering the heart of a civilization that left an impressive legacy. Every stone wall, every trail, and every panoramic view tells the story of the Incas, a culture that knew how to mold the mountain in its favor with time-defying architecture.

To get the most out of this experience, it's important to be prepared. From the scenic train ride through the Sacred Valley to the guided tour of temples, terraces, and viewpoints, every moment will be unforgettable. However, the altitude, changing weather, and length of the tour require some prior considerations.

The ascent to Huayna Picchu is extraordinary. This steep mountain offers one of the best views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding valley, with gravity-defying trails and scenery that rewards every effort.

Here is everything you need to know so that you can live this experience safely, comfortably and without worries. Get ready for a day full of history, adventure, and breathtaking landscapes in the wonder of the Andean world.

Is it for me?

This tour is perfect if you are looking for a combination of culture and adventure, and are willing to take on a moderate physical challenge. The tour of Machu Picchu does not require special physical condition, but if you decide to climb Huayna Picchu, you will need good physical condition, since it is a short but demanding hike, with steep slopes and narrow trails.

It is ideal for:

  • Active travelers who enjoy trekking at altitude.

  • Photography and nature lovers.

  • People who want to have an unrivalled panoramic view of the citadel.

  • Those who are looking for a different experience from the traditional visit of Machu Picchu.

It is not recommended for people with vertigo, heart problems or difficulty walking on uneven ground.

Do I need to acclimatize before the tour?

Although Machu Picchu is located at a lower altitude than Cusco, the ascent to Huayna Picchu can feel more demanding due to physical exertion and lack of oxygen. Therefore, we recommend:

  • Spend at least one day in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before the tour.

  • Avoid heavy meals and alcoholic beverages the night before.

  • Stay well hydrated.

  • Drink coca or muña infusions to relieve possible symptoms of altitude sickness.

  • Sleep well and don't overexert yourself in the days before.

How difficult is the hike to Huayna Picchu?

The hike to Huayna Picchu is short, but very steep and with narrow sections. You ascend from 2,430 m a.s.l. (citadel) to 2,693 m a.s.l. in about 45 to 60 minutes. The descent takes a little less.

Key facts:

  • Duration of the climb: 45–60 minutes approx.

  • Type of terrain: stone steps, narrow sections, areas with exposure.

  • Maximum altitude: 2,693 m a.s.l.

  • Difficulty: High (due to physical effort and vertigo, not distance).

The view from the top totally justifies the effort.
